Youth Guarantee

Are you 16 to 19 years old? Ready to move beyond school but still want to study and pick up some practical skills? Youth Guarantee is an initiative that gives 16 to 19-year-olds the chance to study FREE for 1 year at WITT, in a variety of different practical qualifications. You can choose to enrol in either a 1-year qualification or 2 six month qualifications.


WITT offers practical programmes under the Youth Guarantee Scheme. These programmes range from Level 1 to 3. They can include literacy and numeracy components, as well as practical skills. You can choose to enrol in either a 1 year programme or a six month programme.

1 year, full-time programmes:

New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 3)

New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 3)

New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory (Level 3)

New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 3) 

New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Carpentry) (Level 3)

Six months, full-time programmes:

Introduction to Hospitality (Level 2)

New Zealand Certificate in Business Administration & Technology (Level 3)

New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3)

New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 3)

New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 2)

New Zealand Certificate in Makeup and Skincare (Level 3)

New Zealand Certificate in Baking (Level 3)

Entry Requirements

To qualify to study under the Youth Guarantee Scheme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 16 to 19 years old
  • Not previously studied at a tertiary institute (STAR not included)
  • Be prepared to study full-time for 1 year
  • Must meet entry criteria for your chosen course
  • Be a NZ citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Interview

Fees

Tuition is FREE for students studying under the Youth Guarantee Scheme. PLEASE NOTE: because the fees are free you will NOT be eligible for a student loan while studying. You would have to contact Studylink to see if you are eligible for the student allowance. Compulsory course-related costs will not be covered.
