Qualification overview

This qualification is designed for learners who wish to further develop their practical and conceptual skills and knowledge in arts, crafts and/or design. The creative industries and cultural sector in Aotearoa New Zealand will benefit from graduates who can use research to inform, critique and present resolved work in simulated contexts. Graduates will be able to independently select and apply a range of processes in arts, craft and/or design contexts.

Entry requirements

Applicants should demonstrate an ability to succeed in tertiary study, shown by the completion of any of the following qualifications or courses of study.

  • NCEA Level 3 as a minimum with no fewer than 12 credits in each of four subjects (including NCEA Level 1 literacy and numeracy requirements; or
  • Equivalent NZQF standards; or
  • Other Level 3 or Level 4 qualifications relevant to the area of study; or
  • New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4).

All applicants will be required to attend an interview and submit a portfolio that demonstrates evidence of creative expression at an appropriate level.

Career Options

Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge for entry-level positions in production and/or design roles within arts and design industries such as designers, technicians, machinists, or salespeople, gallery, retail, artist.
