New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4)

This qualification will help learners take the next step, into higher level qualifications, degree-level study or entry into the workforce. You will focus on developing core skills to help you achieve in your career or study plans including strong strategies for learning, academic writing and referencing and digital literacy.

This programme is open entry.

Any applicants whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5 (with no score below 5 in speaking, reading, writing and listening) or equivalent.

You will learn how to:

  • locate, select and analyse relevant information from a variety of sources and apply to context-relevant tasks and problems.
  • work independently and collaboratively on context-relevant academic tasks and problems.
  • construct a reasoned and researched argument, communicated using a range of appropriate media.
  • develop and critique a study and career plan that identifies specific long-term career goals.

Programme specific information

This qualification is for people intending to pursue focused development in the skills, capabilities, knowledge and attributes needed to succeed at higher levels including at degree level, within the context of a field of study or career pathway.

Students will be required to provide evidence they can progress through the programme of study. This may require an interview, challenge assessment or submission of a portfolio of work to ensure that students choose the most appropriate programme of study.

Students will be required to attend an interview or Information Day to guide them in their selection of courses and finalise the timetable via discussion with the course co-ordinator or tutor prior to enrolment. Full-time or part-time study options available.

Further Study Options

Holders of this qualification will be able to progress to further study or training at WITT Te Pūkenga, at NZQF Level 5 and above (degree, diploma or certificate) related to the context of their programme.

Changes for 2023 learners

On 1 November 2022, WITT and the programme you have enrolled in became part of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology .
When you apply to study with WITT in 2023, you will be enrolled with Te Pūkenga, the new national network of vocational and applied education in Aotearoa New Zealand. You will learn in the same way, in the same place, and with the same people. The great news is that this enables us to share skills and knowledge across a network of passionate education providers, to better help you succeed.
Please note that all programmes offered by WITT and other subsidiaries of Te Pūkenga are under review. This is to make sure they are portable, consistent, and aligned with the needs of the industry to provide you with excellent and quality educational opportunities.
