New Zealand Diploma in Environmental Management (Level 5) with strand in Conservation (Operations)

Become a skilled and competent environmental researcher and resource management employee and be able to apply skills relevant to the conservation industry.

This one-year diploma (or equivalent part-time) is your first step into the world of environmental science and management.

You'll explore topics like ecology, climate, freshwater quality, conservation strategies, and human impacts on natural systems.

Learn how to assess environmental health using data collection, field observations, and sampling techniques, and develop the practical thinking needed for real-world environmental work.

 The programme is equivalent to the first year of a Bachelor of Applied Science.

 If you're passionate about the natural world and want to build a strong scientific foundation, this programme is for you.

 

You will learn how to:

  • Describe global environmental issues (with a focus on New Zealand) to determine their impacts on societies and ecosystems, and basic mitigation measures.
  • Use data collection and surveying methods to monitor environmental ecological or asset management.
  • Manage field operations, projects, and engagement in a conservation setting.

Entry Requirements

  • New Zealand Certificate in Conservation (Operations) (Level 4)
  • NCEA Level 3
  • Equivalent knowledge, skills experience or study

Career or further study options

Graduates of this qualification will be able to work in the following contexts: conservation officer, resource management adviser/consultant, environmental consultant/technician.

International fees displayed are for 1 year of study (equivalent to 120 credits); OR as specified for the duration of the programme of study, and do not include the below; 

  • Travel and Medical Insurance – NZ $800 per year (provided by UniCare NZ)
  • Compulsory Student Services Fee (CSSF) – NZ $303 per 120 credits

International fees may increase in each new academic year.  Any increase in the fees is required to be paid in full before a student is enrolled and allowed to attend class.
