Delivered in collaboration with TOPEC, you’ll learn and develop leadership skills in the outdoors, with a choice of technical strands in abseil, bush, rock, high ropes, sea kayaking and white water kayaking. You will also be introduced to planning, preparing and leading outdoor activities.
Alongside the hands-on outdoor topics, you will also gain the skills and knowledge to work as a manager or leader in a business context, through the nationally-recognised New Zealand Diploma in Business, delivered at WITT. Strong business skills are vital for those looking to run their own business in future or wanting to get ahead in the tourism industry.
This combined programme can lead on to careers in adventure tourism, self-employed tour operator, community health and education, outdoor instruction, defence force or police.
Location:
The New Zealand Diploma of Business programme is delivered by WITT on the Bell Street campus in New Plymouth. The New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Leadership is delivered at TOPEC, and using various locations as required for the course. This may include locations such as Mt Taranaki, Waitara & Waiwhakaiho Rivers, Wharepapa South and / or others.
Entry Requirements
- NCEA Level 2; or
- Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study.

Additional expenses
Closer to the programme starting, learners will receive a list of course materials to purchase. Examples of course materials could include textbooks, stationery, printing; uniforms, personal protective equipment, tools and a laptop.
