An overwhelming 98 percent of students who took part in the First Impressions Survey say they feel confident and supported in their choice of study.

The survey, of 1059 new students, was conducted between 26 March and 8 April – three weeks into teaching, with a 32 percent return.

The survey is students’ opportunity to give feedback on their initial experience of WITT from their first contact through to the end of the withdrawal period. It covers their application and enrolment experience, orientation and first two weeks of study.

Findings show that:

  • 96 percent easily found information to decide on their study option
  • 97 percent were satisfied with the level of assistance when enrolling
  • 97 percent were satisfied with their welcome and orientation
  • 94 percent were satisfied with their learning spaces
  • 98 percent felt confident and supported in their choice of study
  • 95 percent knew how to access WITT support services

“A great result,” says Zanetta Hinton, Director Student Success.

Comments from survey participants included:

” Everyone is really kind and helpful. Feeling very supported and it's great to have access to so many facilities such as the gym and the doctor/nurse.”

“Absolutely love my course! Tutor is amazing! Also, the extra help from the Māori/Pasifika office (Te Piere) - they are such an awesome bunch of people! Very happy, so glad I made the choice to study with WITT.”

“So thankful I enrolled. WITT is very supportive, and I’m loving the programme I’m in.”

“Before I started, I was so nervous and scared about everything, but everyone has been so amazing and helpful and I’m just so totally happy with how everything is going”.

“You are the best place to be in New Zealand. You are the first step for international students to be a part of New Zealand culture. Aotearoa, I love you from my heart. The best place in the world.”
