Exhibition 

This is the day of exhibition. What form the opening takes and what is involved will be discussed and agreed among participants. It is possible opening arrangements may incur shared costs, this will be discussed. Everyone should be prepared to be present through the day. Selling work is optional.

Community Painting event

This is an opportunity for Taranaki artists to participate in a public painting fundraiser! Spend 1 day painting a choice of two ‘still lifes’. The event is open to public viewing throughout the day it’s open. At the end of the day event the public ‘vote’ for their Painting of Choice. The work with the highest number of votes is placed in a silent auction. All other works are also auctioned. All funds to go to charity.

Drawing made easy

This beginners Drawing course will give you the confidence to draw objects that look real. Using a few materials and learning the basics of line, shape, tone, light & shade and perspective you can create an illusion of depth in just a few short lessons. Once you understand the fundamentals you can progress to more complex drawings. Everyone can draw - it’s a taught skill - made easy!

Painting made easy

This Acrylic Painting course covers everything from buying paints, mediums, brushes & canvases to maintaining your gear. This course will teach you: how to prepare a canvas, how to compose a painting, how to mix and apply colour, painting techniques to use (how and why), why underpainting is important and how to know when your painting is ‘finished’. Full of useful tips for the beginner or those who want a refresher.

Beginners Screen Printing       

This course covers Screen Printing basics; from using a cut -stencil to a photo emulsion method of printing. By the end of the course students will be able to print an image onto a T-Shirt and know the fundamental processes involved in creating a screen printed image. 

Materials - all materials are provided (except for a clean plain T-Shirt).

When: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10am-2pm
Starting 15 April -17 April  (3 sessions)

Construct a Light Box

A light box can be used for tracing or illuminating images or even as a night light. This course will teach you how to design and construct a functioning light box. Using a recycled ‘drawer’ or a wooden box (even a suitcase) learners will prepare, sand & paint before installing LEDs, handles and lastly opaque perspex. An important part of the course is Health & Safety; using a range of tools in a safe environment eg; staple gun, electric drill, bandsaw, nail gun. Take home a functioning light box made by you!

Materials:  Perspex is included in the course costs, as are the tools and incidentals. *LEDs are not - This is an additional cost for each participant ($5-$10 approx)

Life Drawing                 

This course is designed for those with some experience in Life Drawing (drawing the unclothed model). Each session is 2 hours duration starting with 30 minutes is warm up drawings with poses increasing in length as the lesson develops. The final hour is dedicated to one pose enabling learners to focus on a final drawing or extend drawing skills on multiple works. Learners can explore both wet & dry media (graphite, conte, charcoal, chalk and ink). Tuition is provided on a one to one basis including class demonstrations.

Materials: Life Model and paper costs are included in the course price. A selection of drawing materials are available for all participants. Learners can bring & use their own materials.

Starting 7 May - 28 May (4 sessions)

Cost:    $70 pp
*Participants wanting to attend single sessions are charged a $20 fee to cover the cost of the model.

 

Zines

Following from the successful workshop coordinated by Puke Ariki last year, Ian Clothier is offering another one day workshop where participants make their own zine or artist book.

Drawing Portraits                 

This short course will give you the skills to draw portraits with confidence and ease. The course begins by learning the structure and proportions of the face and how single features relate to each other. Learn how to design and shape these features (eyes, mouth, nose) and how these features change with facial ‘expressions’. Drawing techniques such as cross contour will help the learner develop an awareness of volume and depth.

Video Poetry

In this workshop, participants will create a short video and audio art work. They can use either their own poetry, found poetry or public domain poetry as the basis.

Make a free website - Preparations

On the first evening, participants will set up an account at the free webservice wordpress.com – this requires bringing your mobile phone. Then attention turns to preparing the material that is to go on the website and organising the menu.

Plan and manage a short exhibition

Participants will look at what is required to run a short exhibition, planning will start, the design of online graphics commenced, email list resolved and opening planned. Some people from the previous workshops may like to take part in the exhibition workshops.
