Seminars resume

WITT’s research seminar series, Ngā Ara Rangahau, will resume in a new place at a new time.

Yimei Man, a doctoral candidate at Waikato University and a Bachelor of Applied Management tutor at WITT, will speak in the WITT boardroom on its New Plymouth campus on October 29.

Her doctoral studies focus on earnings management, agency costs, stock market anomalies, capital markets and behavioural finance and she will discuss earnings management practices in Chinese listed companies.

Ms Man obtained her MSc in International Accounting and Finance from Stirling University, UK and BSc in Finance and Economics from Shandong University, China.

She says China is the largest emerging market in the world, but the rest of the world still does not have full knowledge of China and the Chinese companies.  Her PhD study is aimed to explore the earning management practices of Chinese companies so that the rest of the world can learn more about them.

She says that knowledge might help both foreign and local investors to invest in these companies.

The seminar has been organised by WITT’s recently appointed Research and Innovation Manager Diana Fergusson and continues the work started by Dr Lily George, who has returned to work in Northland.

“WITT continues to attract highly qualified tutors and Yimei’s doctoral work demonstrates how research informs our teaching, keeping students at the forefront of current knowledge,” Diana said.
