Graduate Profiles

Aarin Bang

I am currently employed as a Network Manager at the NZ Transport Agency. I work closely with our Network Outcomes Contractor on all aspects of asset management for the 631km of State Highway within the Manawatu/Whanganui Region. I am also responsible for identifying and project managing Resilience and Emergency Works projects within the region. I am currently lead project manager for $47M worth of Emergency Works being carried out in the Manawatu and Taranaki Regions.

Because of the way NZIHT offered their courses, I was able to work full time, raise a young family and gain a qualification. By working in the industry while studying, I was able to put what I had learnt into practice immediately, further reinforcing what I had been taught. The Diploma is taught in such a way that you don’t just have the technical knowledge but also the practical application of each subject allowing you to enter the workforce with confidence.

Sandi Morris

Sandi has successfully completed her studies with NZIHT, graduating in May of 2017 and is currently working for Opus International Consultants Ltd in Palmerston North. As a Senior Civil Technician, she consults with local organisations and industries, including her former employer PNCC.

She started studying while working as the Transportation Planner at Palmerston North City Council, where she was in charge of managing the city council’s assets and delivery of roading programmes. They encouraged her to undertake the NZ Diploma of Engineering (Civil) as part of her professional developmentThe council felt that the qualification would assist in helping Sandi grow as a professional within the transportation industry.

“Studying while working, as well as being a full-time mum was challenging” says Sandi. “NZIHT’s unique learning delivery within ‘Study Blocks’, meant that I could plan ahead and fit my studies around the demands of work and family life”.

“The block courses were rewarding for me as a visual leaner and also a nice break away from work and life distractions; this time was precious and invaluable to my exam success".
