Open Day is on Saturday 15 November from 10am to 2pm, with a focus on experiencing WITT’s professionally-geared learning facilities – from commercial kitchens, simulated nursing suites, trades workshops, and hair and beauty salons to name a few.
Try your hand at barbering (shave a balloon!), hairdressing (have a go at a classic French roll?) as well as skincare and makeup (the art of nail painting) or hospitality (test your barista skills).
In healthcare, you can check out WITT’s just-opened, refurbished and expanded nursing simulation centre – equipped and set up to replicate an operational hospital ward.
If you’re keen on careers in sport and exercise, come and check out WITT’s Mātātoa gym. Or if art and design are your thing, peruse the extensive studio spaces and the graduate student art exhibition, recently part of the Taranaki Arts Trail.
Courses for those who want to work outdoors are well catered for with conservation, pest control, agriculture and horticulture programmes on offer. Test your knowledge of native species, try setting a trap, or if farming is your thing – have a go at fencing.
WITT’s trades workshops offer exemplary learning – check out carpentry and see the nearly-completed house that students have been building all year. Find out what plumbing students learn about – from installing hand basins and toilets to hot water cylinders and drains. The automotive workshop is bound to inspire anyone interested in this industry – witness the diverse tools and machinery used by trainee mechanics and have a go at balancing a wheel. A welding simulator for mechanical engineering will be operating, and potential sparkies can create electricity!
Visitors will be able to span out across the campus with a printed map and activity guide. Te Piere – the central campus meeting space - is where you’ll find information on Business and Administration, Te Reo, and Foundation and Skills for Living programmes, as well as general information on campus life.
Impressions Restaurant and the Garage Café will be buzzing with kai on sale at the food and bakery market.
Every area will be crewed by expert tutors, on hand to answer questions about their programmes.
Nicola Conley, Operations Lead Executive, says she and WITT tutors are excited to welcome the community onto the campus so they can get a feel for diverse study options, meet the people who will be teaching them, and check out top-notch facilities.
“We’re proud of what we can offer our community – and we want people to know we’re in full swing, ready to meet the needs of our learners with quality, flexible teaching, top facilities and caring support – whatever programme or level you’re studying.”
