New Zealand Certificate in Skin Care and Cosmetics (Level 3)

This qualification is intended for learners who are seeking to develop a range of essential skills and knowledge in the skin care, beauty and related industries. These sectors will benefit by having access to graduates with the skills and knowledge to competently and safely undertake a range of essential skin care and make-up services within workplaces where skin care, make-up and other cosmetics products are applied and sold.

Graduates of this qualification will have developed practical application of knowledge and skills in preparation for further study but will also be capable of working with initial supervision in a skin care and beauty context.

New Zealand Certificate in Skin Care and Cosmetics (Level 3)

Learn about skincare, professional practices, makeup application and build your product knowledge in this one trimester programme. This will help prepare you for a higher level of study in either makeup artistry, beauty therapy or go straight into employment.

You will learn how to:

  • Comply with professional standards and expectations relating to the application and sale of skin care, makeup and other cosmetics, including manaakitanga, and industry standards for health, safety and hygiene.
  • Greet and welcome clients and carry out a consultation to establish their needs, discuss appropriate products and their use, and agree on possible services.
  • Apply skills and knowledge of skin care and make-up to carry out skin care and make-up services in line with the client consultation, and industry standards.
  • Assist with sales and promotional activities for skin care, makeup and other cosmetics.

Programme specific information

This qualification is designed to provide the beauty sector with skin care and makeup technicians who have the foundation skills and knowledge to provide a range of makeup and skin care services. The purpose of this qualification is to provide competent employees for the makeup and skin care sector as a result, students will be required to undertake training in a simulated workplace environment for set assessment standards.

This programme is open entry

Programme Length

This is a one semester, full-time programme of study, or equivalent part-time.

Class Times

Programme is delivered three days per week.

Assessments

This programme includes competency-based assignments, theory tests and practical assessments.

Work Experience

This programme has no requirement for work experience, but students are recommended to undertake work experience to enhance their formal learning.

Beautician, Beauty Therapist, Cosmetologist, Makeup Consultant.

Employment pathway:

Graduates of this qualification may be employed, contracted or self-employed, in positions such as: beauty therapist, beauty consultant, cosmetic counter assistant, makeup and skincare consultant or makeup or skincare brand representative.
