If you’re looking to improve your computer literacy or extend your cultural knowledge check out our Adult Community Education courses.

Courses include Microsoft Word and Excel, two essential tools for both home and work. With expert instructors and hands-on training, you will leave with a solid understanding of how to use these programmes effectively. 

For those interested in furthering their cultural knowledge, we offer intro classes to te reo Māori. You'll learn the basics of te reo Māori, from greetings and basic conversational phrases to tikanga, customs and traditional values. 

Computing

Computer Basics

This course is designed for people who have little or no computing experience, but are keen to improve their skills. Learners will gain confidence and become familiar with using a desktop computer.

Topics covered:

  • Computer Basics (i.e. basic parts, operating systems, applications).
  • Basic Computer Skills (i.e. file management, downloading & uploading, installing/uninstalling software).
  • The basics of Touch Typing (i.e. the QWERTY keyboard, hunting and pecking to touch typing).

MS Word for Beginners

This course is intended for new users of Microsoft Office Word for Windows who are already familiar with a personal computer, Microsoft Windows and a mouse.

Topics covered:

  • Creating, saving (storing) and retrieving documents.
  • Changing the appearance of a document by formatting text and paragraphs.
  • Copying and moving text to save time.
  • Using the proofing tools to ensure accuracy within a document.
  • Printing a document.

MS Excel for Beginners

This course is intended for new users of Microsoft Office Excel for Windows who are already familiar with a personal computer, Microsoft Excel and a mouse.

Topics covered:

  • Creating, saving (storing) and retrieving spreadsheets.
  • Excel Basic formulas (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Changing the appearance of a spreadsheet (borders, shading).
  • Inserting charts and graphs.
  • Copying and moving a workbook.
  • Printing a spreadsheet.
