MediCross partnership for student health care

Medical urgent care and General Practitioner specialists MediCross are partnering with the Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT) to run the campus student health clinic.

From 9 February, a registered nurse will be based on campus five days a week during term time, offering free first-response care for minor injuries and illness. Students who need further GP care will be referred at their own cost.

“WITT is excited to be working with MediCross to be able to continue offering a health service to our students and staff. MediCross staff will work alongside the institute wellness and pastoral teams to provide comprehensive wellbeing care and support,” says Zanetta Hinton, Director of Student Success at WITT.

MediCross Chief Executive Shah Aslam says, “the on-site service gives students and staff peace of mind, knowing there is a qualified healthcare professional available to assess and support health needs promptly, with clear pathways to further care at MediCross when required. The service also helps ease pressure on hospital emergency department.”

“Supporting student wellbeing is an important part of caring for our wider community. Having a registered nurse on campus makes healthcare easier to access, giving students peace of mind and helping them stay focused on their studies,” he adds.

Nicola Conley, WITT’s Operations Lead Executive, says WITT is pleased to partner with MediCross to provide free health services for students.

“Student wellbeing is critical to learning success, and this partnership helps remove barriers to care while ensuring our learners feel supported, healthy, and able to focus on their studies. It’s a great example of what’s possible when local organisations work together for the benefit of our students and the wider community.”
