Our Mission

Te Kura Matatini o Taranaki — Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT) exists to serve as Taranaki's local hub of learning. We connect people to their future by providing flexible, career-focused education that helps learners, communities, and workplaces grow and thrive.

We cater to the needs of local and international learners, play our part in addressing national skills shortages, keep talented people in the region, and develop the skilled workforce Taranaki needs.

We connect people to their future

From degrees and diplomas to apprenticeships and short courses, we offer industry-relevant training for learners at every stage of their journey. Study options include on-campus learning in New Plymouth, as well as online and blended delivery — locally and nationally — so learners can balance education with work and life.

We deliver through two academic schools, aligned to the needs of the region and skills shortages across the country:

  • School of Engineering and Trades
  • School of Business, Creative & Wellness

Our experienced tutors deliver practical, hands-on learning through work placements, industry projects, and internships. A low student-to-tutor ratio and comprehensive support services create a supportive, inclusive environment where learners can succeed.

Graduates leave with industry-relevant qualifications, valuable networks, and real-world experience that supports both personal and professional success.

Connected to our community

Collaboration with industry, schools, and local iwi keeps us relevant and grounded in the needs of our community. Building new partnerships, nurturing existing relationships, and strengthening our ties to the region are central to who we are — guiding us as we move into an ever-changing future.
