Getting ready for Week 1

Before day one

Before you start officially, there are a couple of things you need to do:

Day 1 - Pōwhiri

To start your journey off on the right foot, we have a pōwhiri to welcome you to our whānau.

If your first day at WITT is Monday 14 July, go to your class as timetabled, your kaiako (tutor) will take you the pōwhiri.  If pōwhiri is new to you … don’t worry your tutor will guide you through the process. After your pōwhiri you'll return to class for morning tea and carry on with your programme..

If your first class on campus is not Monday 14 February you can attend the powhiri if you want to.  Pōwhiri are a wonderful catch-all inclusive process, even if you can't attend.  Either way, be assured that you have been warmly welcomed into WITT.

Lunchtime activities

During the first week of the semester we sometimes organise lunchtime activities.  Keep an eye open for posters displayed around the campus.

What to bring on day 1

Bring pen, paper, something warm to wear (the weather can change) and your water bottle and maybe some lunch.  Te Kauta cafe is a cashless cafe, so eftpos only.

Getting my Student ID card

very student needs a WITT ID card.  The card gives you access to campus buildings, printing and photocopying and more. As soon as your enrolment has been accepted you can apply for your ID card by:.

  1. Email the following information to idcards@witt.ac.nz
  2. Your name.  Preferred first name and legal family name
  3. Date of birth, student ID number (look for it on a letter we sent to you)
  4. A suitable head and shoulder photo.  In colour without filters saved as a jpeg.
  5.  Let us know if you will pick up your ID card or want us to send it to you.

If you can’t email a photo just pop into Te Whare Mātauranga (L Block) New Plymouth during opening hours and we will take your photo and give your card to you on the spot.
