Graduation Regalia: How It Works

Getting ready for graduation is exciting, and we want to make the regalia process as simple as possible!

Academic regalia, including gowns, stoles, hoods and trenchers, must be worn by all Degree, Diploma and Graduate Diploma graduands attending the morning ceremony.

Graduands receiving a Certificate level qualification (Levels 1 – 4) at the afternoon ceremony do not wear regalia. 

Step 1: Order your regalia online (Degree, Diploma and Graduate Diploma graduands only)

Once you have registered, we'll email you instructions to order your regalia online. Once available, the direct link to order your regalia will be here. 

Please make sure you place your order before the closing date of Saturday, 16 January 2027. Late regalia orders may not be accepted.

What do you wear based on your qualification?

Find below a handy schedule to understand what you may need to wear at your Graduation:

Gowns Bachelor gowns are worn by bachelor's degree, diploma, postgraduate diploma and graduate diploma graduands. They are black Cambridge bachelor style and have an open sleeve. They are a generous fit and should suit most people. Gowns that are wider across the shoulders are available for order, if required. Gowns are sized according to your full height and should be worn at mid-calf length.

Trenchers These are the traditional mortarboards or "Caps" worn by bachelor's degree graduands. These are stiff shaped hats with a flat board on the top and a tassel. These hats are black, with a black tassel.  These hats should be worn with the top board horizontal and the smaller peak of the cap to the front. The trencher should sit comfortably so that it does not slip but feels safe when worn. To order the correct size trencher, measure the circumference of your head using a tape measure or use string and a ruler. Position the measuring tape or string just above the eyebrows as demonstrated in the image.

Step 2: Your regalia is delivered to WITT Campus

You don't need to arrange delivery yourself. Your ordered regalia will be sent directly to WITT.

We will also provide the WITT stole or hood that is specific to your qualification. This is provided to you at no additional cost.

Step 3: Collect your regalia from WITT Campus

Before graduation, you’ll need to collect your regalia from WITT.

When you pick your regalia order, you will also receive the WITT stole or hood for your qualification. These are specific to WITT and are provided at no cost.  

Collection Information:

If these times don’t suit, please arrange for someone else to collect your regalia for you. Please bring a bag.  

Step 4: Get ready for graduation day

Keep your regalia clean and safe before the ceremony. We also ask that you wear minimal perfume and deodorant, as these can mark or damage the gowns.

Not sure how to wear everything? Don't worry. We assist you on the day.

Step 5: Wear your regalia at graduation

Bring your regalia with you to the graduation ceremony and enjoy the moment!

Our team will be there to help guide you through the day and make sure your academic dress is ready before you go on stage.

Step 6: Return your regalia after the ceremony

After the graduation ceremony and parade at Huatoki Plaza, you’ll need to return your regalia before 3pm at the designated Regalia Return area at the TSB showplace.

Simply:

1. Go to the Regalia Return desk at TSB showplace by 3pm.
2. Give the team your name.
3. Return all regalia items including gown, hood, stole and/or trencher.
   
4. Sign to confirm that you have returned your regalia.

If you accidentally take regalia home, you are responsible for its return and any charges.
