Our new link man

Witt has welcomed its new Learning to Employment manager Salevi Tiatia into the fold.

Salevi joins the WITT team at Te Piere after spending almost 10 years as the Engineering Taranaki Consortium’s training manager.

The father of five, who moved to Taranaki in 1992 and has also worked here in the police, Work and Income and Tu Tama Wahine will work to develop relationships with employers on behalf of WITT.

“I am excited – these are challenging times for the engineering industry and it’s important that WITT is geared to produce students who have the skills those employers need now, and will need in the future when the economy lifts,” he said.

His role will also involve ensuring students know what they have to do to convince employers to take them on.
“You don’t rock into a job just because you have a new CV. So part of my role will also be looking for the individual strengths of our students and showing them how to use them.”

He said though times were difficult for the industry, the need for employers to continue conversations with education providers remained as important as ever, and he would be making a lot of calls over the next month.
A whakatau was held for Salevi at Te Piere.
