Accolades for WITT graduates

Former WITT students Morgan Hancock and Joshua Sands have excelled in the TSB Community Trust Emergence Award For Young Taranaki Artists.

Morgan picked up the major award at the prizegiving last week in the Percy Thomson Gallery, Stratford. She won $2000 and a trophy created by Taranaki glass artist Richard Landers.

Joshua collected $300 and the 3D Award for his work entitled ‘Oracle’.

Morgan featured in WITT News last year after she graduated from WITT and began working in Auckland for Trelise Cooper. She has since joined Green Cross Health head office in Auckland doing graphic design for Unichem, Life Pharmacy and The Doctors - work she described this week as “awesome”.

Joshua’s work also featured in WITT News last year when one of his pieces was exhibited in Puke Ariki.

The biennial awards attracted 35 entries. Judges were Taranaki artist John McLean and NZ Portrait Gallery director Jaenine Parkinson.

Morgan’s winning work was entitled ‘Trip to the Dairy’.
