About this diploma:
- This qualification is designed for learners with broad knowledge and skills in arts, crafts and/or design who wish to specialise in a selected area.
- The creative industries and cultural sector in Aotearoa New Zealand will benefit from graduates who can critically analyse research findings, critically evaluate work, and present resolved work in a real-world context.
- Graduates will be able to independently select and apply a range of processes in a specialised area of arts, craft and/or design.
You will learn to:
- Apply a broad range of specialised technical skills and technologies to design, produce and present creative work in a selected area of arts, craft or design.
- Apply knowledge of historical and contemporary arts, craft or design movements to show how they inform creative practice in a selected area of arts, craft or design.
- Apply professional business practices and creative processes of discovery, conceptualisation, review, iteration, prototyping and presentation to independently manage projects in a selected area of arts, craft or design in response to a range of complex project briefs.
- Apply knowledge of the elements and principles of a selected area of arts, craft or design practice to critically review and quality assure creative work.
Programme specific information
This one-year diploma caters to those learners who want to develop their art and design skills. Offering eight core papers, learners build technical confidence and expand ideas using practical-based methods. Students must achieve the New Zealand Diploma in Arts and Design (Level 5) to gain entry into this programme or have equivalent skills, knowledge, work experience or study.

Career Options
Artist/Designer, Artist Assistant, Gallery Assistant, Museum Worker, cultural organisations, intermediate-level positions in arts, craft and design industries (e.g. production and/or design roles, arts administrator, sales and advertising and self-employment).

*International Fee Exclusions
International fees displayed are for 1 year of study (equivalent to 120 credits); OR as specified for the duration of the programme of study, and do not include the below;
- Travel and Medical Insurance – NZ $800 per year (provided by UniCare NZ)
- Compulsory Student Services Fee (CSSF) – NZ $320 per 120 credits
International fees may increase in each new academic year. Any increase in the fees is required to be paid in full before a student is enrolled and allowed to attend class.
