Qualification overview

This qualification aims to provide students with both theoretical and practical skills necessary to gain employment as an Engineering Technician in the mechanical engineering field. Engineering Technicians are generally involved in design and operations. This qualification is an International Dublin Accord qualification under the accreditation of Engineering New Zealand.


Entry requirements

• NCEA Level 2 including a minimum of 10 literacy credits at Level 1 or higher (for those who achieved NCEA Level 2 before 2013) and;
• 48 credits at Level 2 in four subjects including at least 12 in mathematics (preferably achievement standards in algebra, calculus or trigonometry); or
• Equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or Cambridge); or
• Equivalent credits from appropriate trades training and/or demonstrated: or skills and experience and a minimum of 10 Literacy credits at Level 1 or higher including 4 reading and 4 writing.

We welcome applications from both international students and New Zealand residents whose first language is not English. For this programme you will require an IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.0 or greater (with no sub score below 5.5 in speaking, reading, writing and listening); or equivalent.
