Youth week

WITT’s new look Te Kāuta café will be the base for Youth Week on campus in New Plymouth.

Youth Week is a nationwide May festival of events celebrating the talents, passion and success of young people.

The theme for the week is “We are more than you see” and WITT’s activities have been organised by tutors Adrian Elmoos and Joanah Phillips.

They have events organised at and around the café from Monday to Thursday. Three of those days will feature live acts and the fourth a DJ and a barbecue.

The theme was decided by youth who were given an option of:  Declutter - don't complicate your mind, We are capable - embrace our abilities,  We are more than you see,  Our issues are valid and resilient young people are the future

Organisers of the national event suggest young people and their community use positive youth development to explore the depth of young people “looking beyond perceptions and physical appearances - valuing more than what face value can present”.

Youth Week runs from May 18 to 26.
