Welcome back: here's some handy tips

Welcome back to Term 4!

We have put together a list of important things you need to know.

1.       Stay focused and remember your goal … to pass your courses and gain the qualification.

2.       Know what you have to complete and have a plan to get it done. This includes all assessment activity for the term as well as any outstanding resubmits from throughout the year.

3.       Keep your tutor informed – especially if you are worried about getting all your coursework done. Remember, tutors want you to pass and will go the extra mile if you are seen to be trying.

4.       Befriend the learning support staff. Need help to put a plan in place to get all the work done or help with a particular assignment? Book in to see them or use the 10-minute drop-in time for quick enquiries.

5.       Panicking or wanting to give up? Talk to your tutor or the support staff in Te Puna Manaaki, ground floor B block.

If you are coming back next year ….

6.       Enrol early (remember to take advantage of Fees Freeze and apply by 31 October)

7.       Not sure what is next for you? Talk to the Careers Advisor.  Nikki Truman is located by reception - pop in and make an appointment.

8.       Remember to apply for your student loan or allowance before Christmas to make sure your payments start when your next course starts.

9.       Consider applying for a scholarship. Check out what is available on the WITT website Scholarship page “GivMe”

10.   Remember there is a stand-down period of one week between benefits – plan for this.

11.   Consider applying for a Job Seeker Student Hardship benefit during the summer holidays - especially if there is a delay between your course finishing and you starting a job. Note that you need to apply four weeks before your course finishes to get your correct payments on time. (Google: Job Seeker Student Hardship and all the info and application form are there)

12.   Check out iWITT for the job opportunities being advertised.

13.   Register with Student Job Search (Link on the WITT website).
