Qualification overview

This qualification aims to give students basic workplace skills for mechanical engineering, welding and fabrication. The qualification may be used as the first stage of an apprenticeship or as the basis for further training. It is designed for both school leavers and more mature students.

Entry requirements

• NCEA Level 1 and must include NCEA Level 1 requirements for Literacy and Numeracy; or
• Equivalent NZQF Unit Standards including equivalent Literacy and Numeracy credits; or
• Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study; or
• Complete a challenge assessment such as to suggest likelihood of successful programme completion. Any students applying under this section must attend an interview prior to enrolling.
