Qualification overview

The aim of the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering is to provide skilled and competent engineering technicians specialised in mechanical, civil, electrical or electronic engineering for the New Zealand engineering sector. Graduates will be capable of operating at a technician level scope of practice as outlined by the Dublin Accord (international Engineering Alliance, 2002)

Electronics Strand - NZIHT does not offer all of the courses required to complete the NZ Diploma in Engineering – Electronics strand. The courses that are not currently offered by NZIHT for the electronic strand may be developed and delivered if sufficient demand arises. Students will need to complete this qualification by studying the remaining courses at another provider of this qualification. Please note the Electronics Strand is not offered to International Students

This qualification is delivered in partnership with the New Zealand Institute of Highway Technology.

Entry requirements

  • NCEA Level 2* and 48 credits at Level 2 in four subjects including at least 12 credits in Maths, or

  • Equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or Cambridge), or

  • Equivalent credits from appropriate trades training and/or demonstrated skills and experience

  • Applicants who do not meet the requirements for admission as above may be admitted if they undertake and successfully complete the Certificate in Engineering Technology.
