Civil Engineering Strand

This qualification’s aim is to provide the engineering profession with skilled and competent Civil Engineering Technicians. These Technicians possess skills that will enable them to apply engineering theory to practice, and to competently perform technical operations to the ethical and professional standards required by the engineering profession.

Electrical Engineering Strand - part-time study only

The NZDE (Electrical) prepares a student for a career in the electrical industry. Electrical engineers design, maintain and apply the use of electricity and the equipment for power generation and distribution and the control of machines and communication. At the lower levels of study, students receive a fundamental grounding in engineering principles and practice. 

Please note the Electrical Strand is not offered to International Students.

This qualification is delivered in partnership with the New Zealand Institute of Highway Technology.

Entry requirements

  •  48 credits at Level 2 in four subjects including at least 12 credits in Maths, or
  • Equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or Cambridge), or
  • Equivalent credits from appropriate trades training and/or demonstrated skills and experience
  • 8 Literacy credits at Level 1 or higher including 4 Reading and 4 Writing
  • Applicants who do not meet the requirements for normal admission may be admitted if they undertake and successfully complete the Certificate in Engineering Technology.
