Qualification overview

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the pastoral farming sector with individuals who have the skills and knowledge to take responsibility for the day to day operational management of a pastoral farming production system.

Learners will benefit by having a qualification within a training pathway that recognises progression through the industry, as well as increased skills and knowledge acquisition to enable improved job performance.

It is understood students should be employed on farms within the Taranaki area and will spend the majority of their time working in agricultural employment. Employment is a critical core component of this programme and essential to ensure all aspects of this programme are completed in a real work environment where any off job/theory assessment is seen to directly involve the workplace.

Entry requirements

  • NCEA Level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of three subject areas or
  • A relevant level 3 qualification or
  • Equivalent life skills / Work experience

Special Admission Criteria

A personal interview, references, and/or school reports and a brief essay are also required as part of the application process in order that all applicants can provide evidence of being able to progress through the programme.
