Taranaki Careers & Technology Expo wrap up

Thousands of high school students and community members bustled through the doors of the TSB Stadium last week for the 2019 Taranaki Careers & Technology Expo.

With over 80 booths set up in New Plymouth’s TSB Stadium, Expo-goers had plenty of information available on career and study opportunities in Taranaki and beyond. WITT was well-represented, with over 20 booths and over 40 tutors and staff members on hand to chat to students, parents and community members about their career goals and how WITT can help to get them there.

WITT’s engineering and technology exhibits were a highlight for many visitors, with tutors demonstrating some of the new technology in WITT’s collection.

WITT’s Careers Advisor Nikki Truman was pleased to see interest from people of all ages and backgrounds wanting to study at WITT next year, including new programmes in Primary Industries and the programme BEngTech.

“It was another successful year for us at the Expo, with lots of interest – not just from high school students but also from people looking to take their career in a new direction.”

“It’s not surprising that there were lots of people interested in our ever-popular Nursing and NZDE programmes. It’s great to see people walk out the door of the Expo with all the information they need to enrol in our February intakes.”

Nikki says the Careers & Training Expo is an important event in the WITT calendar.

“WITT’s a long-standing sponsor of the event and the reason we contribute to the Expo is because we want the Taranaki community to have access and information about all the opportunities that are available. It’s often the case that there are options out there that people don’t yet know about.”

“It’s a great kick back to see people of all ages walking out with a sense of direction and purpose, a feeling of reassurance that there is a path to their career success right here in the Taranaki region.”

WITT has been involved with the careers expo for many years and was the platinum sponsor for the 2019 event.
