Maori answers for businesses

WITT and the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to give businesses a better understanding of Māori protocol and customs.

The introduction to Māori Culture for Business will be held at Chamber House, 42 Egmont St, New Plymouth next Tuesday (March 27).

Chamber chief executive Arun Chaudhari said more than 30 people had registered for the session by Thursday this week and he expected the total to approach, if not exceed 40.

“A lot of business people are unsure of how to conduct themselves when meeting or working with Māori businesses and organisations,” he said.

“This is a very good opportunity to learn and clarify kawa – the guiding principles, policies and procedures – and tikanga, behaviour when doing business.”

The introduction to Māori Culture for Business is a free question and answer session designed to help businesses develop a greater understanding of how to act and build relationships with the Maori community. It will run from noon to 1.15pm on Tuesday.
