Kyle's NZIHT switch

Kyle Hall’s WITT journey has taken a significant turn with his appointment as new General Manager of NZIHT – the New Zealand Institute of Highway Technology.

NZIHT is a wholly owned subsidiary of WITT and is based in Young St, New Plymouth. It offers training covering civil engineering, technical and skills training all over the country, but has its major teaching hub in Collingwood St, Hamilton.

Kyle’s appointment follows the departure of Glen West, who ended a 14-year relationship with WITT to become the Wood Group’s New Zealand General Manager based in New Plymouth.

Kyle has been at WITT for seven years, initially as an engineering tutor in trades and for the last three years as Programmes Manager.

Kyle grew up in Taranaki and spent 16 years working in the manufacturing, engineering and dairy industries before joining WITT.

He wants to continue the work of Glen West by continuing to grow training within the industry and working with the NZIHT team to seek new opportunities.

The challenge for NZIHT is to continue to provide training courses that ensure staff at companies such as Higgins and Fulton Hogan and district and regional councils can make the quickest possible progress.

NZIHT has over 250 students studying formal qualifications across New Zealand and over 1900 people have engaged in short course, professional development training both in New Zealand and offshore this year so far.

“I’m very excited – it’s a great progression for me personally,” he said. “I enjoyed working with Glen in the past and look forward to continuing his good work.”

WITT chief executive Barbara George said the appointment of Kyle was the latest in a series of internal promotions for WITT that underlined the calibre of staff at the polytech.

“NZIHT is in safe hands with Kyle in charge, I am delighted for him,” she said.
