Josh here to help others succeed

Tutor Josh Lowl is one of a team of industry experts who support WITT’s Exercise students to achieve their goals.

Josh joined the WITT team earlier this year after deciding to take a new path into teaching. His previous experience in the exercise industry saw him working as a strength and conditioning coach for high performance athletes and sports teams.

“I enjoy being able to share my skills and knowledge with those that are interested in the exercise industry,” he said.  “It’s a way for me to give back to the wider community and help others succeed.”

After finishing school, Josh went to Massey University to study a Bachelor of Sport & Exercise majoring in Prescription and Training. He’s excited to be working in a role where he can provide the same kind of support that helped him build his career.

“Having the support of teachers at high school to push myself in the area I was interested in – sport and exercise – was what motivated to go down that path at university,” he said. “That’s the same support I give to all of my students.

“Students really benefit from the expertise of all the tutors within our Exercise team as well. We have different backgrounds in the exercise industry and we all believe in teaching in a way where students are engaged and can have fun while learning.”

A typical day in one of Josh’s classes usually involves a bit of theory followed by some practical learning in the gym.

“Students get plenty of time in the new Fitness Factory gym here on campus, where they’re able to put all their new tools into use,” he said.

Josh’s advice to anyone wanting to follow their passion into the exercise industry is to go for it.

“I’ve had some great opportunities and I am continuing to learn throughout my career,” he said.

“And one of the best things about working in this industry is the people you meet.”
