Taking on the roles of Deputy Chief Executive and Director, School - Māori Enterprise, Business & Technology, Linda Weterman was welcomed to WITT at a pōwhiri on Monday morning.

Currently the Divisional CEO at Aspire2 Distance Learning based in New Plymouth, Linda will join the team full-time on 28 October. Linda has extensive experience in the tertiary education sector and has spent the last 25 years working in and supporting lifelong learning. Some of Linda’s roles over that period include Hospitality Management, Auditing, Tutoring and Facilitating, Learning Systems Management, Head of Schools, Chief Executive of YMCA for the Greater Wellington region.

She brings a blend of business and change management alongside educational experience to her role at WITT.

“I look forward to working alongside staff, graduates, Iwi, employers and industry to co-create a robust and future focused WITT - we will provide regional leadership and work to become a regional leader alongside the new reforms of vocational education, Tapuwae Roa and Taranaki 2050,” she says.

Linda’s is a member of the Institute of Directors and a Board member of the Project Management Institute of NZ. But her extra-curricular activities don’t stop at the boardroom door.  

“I am currently studying towards a NZ Cheese Master certificate. I am a very amateur cheese maker,” she says. “I enjoy cycling along the coastal track and have four very spoilt free-range chickens. I am also a volunteer for Business Mentors NZ and a Hospice Taranaki Biographer.”

Reflecting on the job ahead of her at WITT, Linda offers a whakatauki about aiming high and being persistent:
