Drop, cover, hold

WITT will play an active role in supporting the ShakeOut Drill on October 18 – a day when it is expected more than 54 million people around the world will be involved.

Linda Dravitski, Manager Corporate Health and Safety, is coordinating the WITT drill. At 9.30am people around the country will “drop, cover and hold” for 30-60 seconds. Computers at WITT will raise the alert to start the ShakeOut drill during the exercise.

More than 780,000 New Zealanders, and 14,000 in Taranaki have been signed up to take part.

Linda said WITT was proactive in Health and Safety, and that New Zealander is well aware of the devastating potential of quakes and tsunami following events in Christchurch and Kaikoura. WITT will monitor and review the success of its own exercise.

The ShakeOut is designed to teach people how to react – but also how to be prepared for such an event.
