Can they do it? YES they can

A Hawera team collected the major award at the Young Enterprise Scheme awards in New Plymouth this week.

Country Canines pipped Nunya Beeswax to win the major regional title. You can learn more about the teams in their own words, and see the full results below.

WITT, in conjunction with BDO, presented the Business Plan awards in the annual competitions.

The five teams to be recognised were Girls of Steel and Cup & Go (St Mary’s Diocesan) Nunya Beeswax and Safe & Sound (New Plymouth Girls’ High) and Just For You (Sacred Heart).

The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme is aimed at Year 12 and 13 students who set up and run their own business for a year.

Carol Curtin, WITT’s Faculty Leader for Business and Management Programmes, told the audience  while five teams were noted for their work in the business plan section, all YES participants who completed a Business Plan deserved to be congratulated.

“A business plan is the hardest document a business will ever have to complete, as most businesses in the audience would attest”.

Carol said the YES awards continued to prove themselves as a successful incubator of entrepreneurial talent.

She said the number of businesses which tackled problems facing the environment and emerging social awareness in regard to alternative healthy lifestyles was notable.

She gave as an example the teams which produced bees wax wrap and a range of vegan sweet treats.

“WITT looks forward to continuing to be part of the journey for these young entrepreneurs as they consider their tertiary study options in the applied business area,” she said.

Today we introduce all the entrants for this year’s YES awards, in their own words, followed by the results…
