A festive season of joy

As we negotiated the season’s challenges in 2018 I steadfastly stood by my assertion, and that of Council, that WITT was on the right path.

In 2018 WITT was able to celebrate that NZQA’s confidence in WITT was restored with the elevation in the quality assessment of its educational delivery to its students.

WITT is in a positive place, and I am delighted that our confidence was justified.

But more importantly, it is a tribute to our team at WITT who have risen to the many challenges of 2018.

For our community, the WITT News newsletter has regularly carried success stories of our students – succeeding both at home and abroad during 2018. They are really important as they tell a story of those precious outcomes of students who have been nurtured by our dedicated people at WITT.

This year we have we have farewelled in October the chief executive of five years, Barbara George, who oversaw our many challenges of those years including successful EER review in 2018.

I want to thank Lyal French-Wright, who stood down as my deputy to take on the role of acting chief executive as Council engages to recruit the successor to the chief executive role.

As for 2019, we acknowledge that it will be another busy year as WITT continues with the business as usual activities but at the same time activity engages, adapts to and pursues the opportunities of an ever-changing environment. This includes the governments ITP Roadmap 2020 Project, Taranaki Just Transitions Project and the impact of the potential opportunities within the Provincial Growth Fund and our Regional Economic Development Strategy, Tapuae Roa. The pursuit of this change and the opportunities it presents will always be in the context of being enduringly good for WITT, its learners and its stakeholders.

On behalf of Council, to our students, supporters, staff and stakeholders, we wish you a happy and safe festive season and prosperous 2019.
