Qualification overview

Are you 16 or 17 years old? Ready to move beyond school but still want to study and pick up some practical skills?

Youth Guarantee is an initiative that gives 16 and 17 year olds the chance to study *FREE for 1 year at WITT in 12 different practical qualifications.

WHAT CAN YOU STUDY?

WITT offers 12 practical qualifications under the Youth Guarantee Scheme. These qualifications are all between Levels 1 to 3. You can choose to enrol in either a 1 year qualification or 2 six month qualifications.

1 year qualifications beginning in February:

  • Certificate in Automotive Trades (Level 2)
  • Certificate in Hairdressing Skills (Level 3)
  • Certificate in Electrical Skills (Level 3)
  • Certificate in Beautician (Level 3)

6 month qualifications (you must combine 2 of these to make up a full-year of study):

  • National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 2)
  • Certificate in Welding (Level 3)
  • Certificate in Business Adminstration & Computing (Levels 2 & 3)
  • Certificate in Bar, Espresso & Restaurant (Level 3)
  • Certificate in Culinary Arts (Level 3)
  • Certificate in Tertiary Studies (Levels 1-3)
  • Certificate in Creative Graphics (Level 3)
  • Certificate in Computing (Level 2)
  • Certificate in Computing & IT (Level 3)

Entry requirements

To qualify to study under the Youth Guarantee Scheme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 16 or 17 years old
  • Not turn 18 before the course start date
  • Not previously studied at a tertiary institute (STAR not incldued)
  • Be prepared to study full-time for 1 year
  • Must meet entry criteria for your chosen course
  • Be a NZ citizen or Permanent Resident

 

*FEES

Tuition is FREE for students studying under the Youth Guaranatee Scheme. PLEASE NOTE: because the fees are free you will not be eligible for a student loan or allowance while studying. Compulsory course-related costs will not be covered.

Career Options

Depending on the qualification chosen, students may be able to seek entry level employment or apprenticeships.

Further study options

Graduates may proceed to study towards other WITT qualifications.
