Qualification overview

Offered in partnership between WITT and Massey University, the Certificate in Foundation Studies is a full-time, 1-year bridging qualification that will assist you to meet the academic and English language/literacy requirements for University Entrance at undergraduate level.

To complete the full certificate, students must pass a minimum of six papers. There are two compulsory papers: Foundation Studies in English for Academic Purposes and Foundation Studies in Academic Study Skills. Students then choose four elective papers from Mathematics, Biological Science, Physical Science, Management, Humanities and Social Science.

Entry requirements

Students who apply after leaving New Zealand Secondary School must have:

  • Completed at least Year 12
  • Achieved at least 50 credits in approved subjects at NCEA Level 2 or above, including at least 14 credits at level 1 or higher in English
  • Achieved 14 credits in Mathematics at NCEA Level 1 or higher

Life Skill/Work Experience
Applicants may also be admitted to the qualification if they are able to demonstrate likelihood of successful programme completion and access/supervision as outlined above. Contact WITT for further details.

UNIVERSITY ADMISSION

Students who successfully complete the Certificate in Foundation Studies will be eligible for admission to unrestricted undergraduate degrees at Massey University.
