Qualification overview

This is an introduction qualification for people wishing to pursue a career in welding.  It is aimed at preparing students to be productive in the use of basic welding techniques in industry.  The practical welding skills cover joining steel, stainless steel and aluminium, employing the following techniques: manual arc welding (MMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW or MIG), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW or TIG) and cutting using manual processes.  


Entry requirements

  • 48 or more credits at NCEA Level 1 and must include NCEA Level 1 requirements for LIteracy and Numeracy or
  • Equivalent NZQF standards or
  • Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study
