Qualification overview
This qualification aims to give students basic workplace skills for mechanical engineering and related trades. The qualification may be used as the first stage of an apprenticeship or as the basis for further training. It is designed for both school leavers and more mature students.

Entry requirements

48 or more credits at NCEA Level 1, with no fewer than 12 credits in each of Mathematics and English and the remainder from 2 other subjects/domains and/or

Equivalent NZQF Unit Standards

Applications will also be considered from people with other academic qualifications or industry experience.

Engineering tradesperson, engineering apprentice in general engineering or fabrication.
Further study options
The National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 2) acts as the first year of an apprenticeship, and after completion of an apprenticeship students can progress to the new Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical).
