Qualification overview

This qualification develops students’ knowledge and skills for entry level employment as Process Operators in the oil and gas, energy and chemical processing industries. It covers introduction to process operations, safety and risk management, basic chemistry and thermodynamics, petrochemical processes, petroleum projects, gas testing and other operational and generic skill sets. It has been designed in partnership with industry, with a significant amount of sponsored work placement where students gain a broad exposure.

  

Entry requirements

• 32 credits, including 8 at NCEA Level 1 in English, 12 at NCEA Level 1 in Maths, and 12 at NCEA Level 2 from Science, Computing, Engineering

• Equivalent NZQF Unit Standards; or

• A Level 4 National Certificate or trades qualification in an engineering or technology field

• Applicants will also be required to undertake a drug test, provide written

references, a police check and attend an interview.

This qualification has been designed with significant input from companies who employ Process Operators locally. Opportunities for career progression and employment in and beyond Taranaki exist for this specialised and in-demand occupational group.

Further study options

Graduates will normally progress to the Level 4 National Certificate once employed.
