Qualification overview

This qualification develops students’ knowledge and skills for entry level employment as Process Operations in the oil & gas, energy and chemical processing industries.

It covers the skills and knowledge required for plant and machinery operations, thermodynamics, instruments, process and steam operations, health and safety requirements and risk management.

Entry requirements

• NCEA Level 2 which must include 12 or more credits in science subject/s, including NCEA Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy; 
• Equivalent NZQF Unit Standards; or
• A Level 4 National Certificate or trades qualification in an engineering or technology field
• Applicants will also be required to undertake a drug test, provide written references, a police check and attend an interview.

Career Options

This qualification has been designed with significant input from companies who employ Process Operators locally. Opportunities for career progression and employment in and beyond Taranaki exist for this specialised and in-demand occupational group.

Further study options

Graduates will normally progress to the Level 4 New Zealand Certificate once employed.
