This qualification is designed to provide you with foundation knowledge and skills that will enable you to provide quality education and care to young children in a supportive role across a variety of early childhood education settings. Features of this qualification at WITT include an interactive classroom environment and practical experience in an early childhood centre gained throughout your year of study.

Entry requirements

  • 48 or more credits at NCEA Level 2, with no fewer than 12 credits in each of four subjects and 14 credits at NCEA Level 1 in Literacy;
  • Equivalent NZQF Unit Standards
  • Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study.

 

Special Admission Criteria

Applicants are required to determine their suitability for the programme on the basis of an interview and supporting written evidence from two referees. Criteria for entry include, but are not limited to:

  • All applicants are required to attend an interview conducted by academic staff members
  • Verbal communication skills (assessed at interview and by referee attestation)
  • Motivation, commitment to tertiary studies, self-awareness and interest in early childhood education and care
  • Police check.
