This qualification is designed to provide you with foundation knowledge and skills that will enable you to provide quality education and care to young children in a supportive role across a variety of early childhood education settings. Features of this qualification at WITT include an interactive classroom environment and practical experience in an early childhood centre gained throughout your year of study.

48 or more credits at NCEA Level 2, with no fewer than 12 credits in each of four subjects and 14 Literacy credits (reading and writing) at NCEA Level 1
Equivalent NZQF Unit Standards
Students who do not meet the above entry criteria may be admitted to the programme if they can demonstrate equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study.
Special Admission Criteria
Applicants are required to determine their suitability for the programme on the basis of an interview and supporting written evidence from two referees. Criteria for entry include, but are not limited to:

Verbal communication skills (assessed at interview and by referee attestation)
Motivation, commitment to tertiary studies, self-awareness and interest in early childhood education and care
Education and care educator, nanny/au Pair (New Zealand/overseas), home-based caregiver, GSE education support worker, OSCAR, holiday programmes.
