Qualification overview

The National Certficate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational/Workplace) raises the ability of students to develop the literacy and numeracy skills of adult learners within the context of a workplace training or education programme. The aim of this qualification is to produce graduates who can reflect on the embedding principles and practices of literacy and numeracy in tertiary learning and teaching, and apply this to the delivery, design, development, assessment and evaluatoin of their teaching in a New Zealand/Aotearoa cultural context.

Entry requirements

  • This qualification requires a professional level of expertise in adult education and training, including cultural perspectives that underpin teaching to Maori adult learners and adult learners from other cultures.
  • Students must be in a postion which enables them to engage in teaching practice with adult learners.
  • Students need to have ICT proficiency.
