Qualification overview

This Diploma is suitable for those who want to gain a broad range of creative skills. It allows students flexibility to specialise in areas of interest, selecting from visual arts major (2D/3D, New Media) or digital media major (photography, print media, graphic design, web media, animation, digital film, TV, our new strand Cultural Design) or students can select from across both majors.

Entry requirements

  • University Entrance or
  • A minimum of 42 credits at NCEA level 3, with a minimum of 14 credits in 2 subjects, over a maximum of 4 subjects.
  • A minimum of 24 at level 3 NCEA in Art, Design or Technology subjects and  
  • A minimum of 12 credits in English at Level 2 or higher and
  • A minimum of 14 credits in Mathematics at Level 1 or higher. 
  • Successful completion of the Certificate in Creative Technologies (Level 4)
  • Equivalent knowledge and skills and/or
  • Previous and relevant life skills or work experience and/or
  • Other formal or informal study such as to suggest likelihood of successful programme completion.
  • All applicants will be required to submit a professional portfolio that demonstrates evidence of creative work and conceptual thinking at an appropriate level and attend an interview.

Career Options

A range of creative careers including animation, film and television production, graphic design, photography, web design and visual arts. This Diploma is equivalent to the first 2 years of the WELTEC Bachelor of Creative Technologies.

Further study options

Students can undertake futher study and enrol with WelTec to complete their Bachelor of Creative Technologies (Level 7)
