Qualification overview

The Certificate in Photography is designed to help you to develop your own create ideas using a number of different media.This programme will teach you how to use a camera to take photographs in a range of situations; understand and use manipulation techniques relating to camera, film and darkroom practice; and apply knowledge of the history of photography relating to modern usage and technical developments. Students get exposed to a wide range of photographic styles - photojournalism,fashion, portraits, landscapes and product photography.

Entry requirements

  • 48 or more credits at NCEA Level 2, with no fewer than 12 credits in each of four subjects; and/or
  • Equivalent NZQF Standards
  • Equivalent Skills and knowledge and/or
  • Previous and related life skills or work experience
  • Other formal or informal study such as to suggest likelihood of successful programme completion.  Applicants that do not meet the academic achievement entry criteria above may be required to participate in an interview.
  • Successful completion of the Certificate of Creative Graphics Level 3.

Further study options

Graduates can undertake further study towards the Certificate in Creative Technologies or the WITT/WelTec's Diploma in Creative Technologies (Level 6).
