Qualification overview

This is a foundation programme which enables learners to explore and develop their creativity using digital technologies and techniques. It is designed to give learners a range of experiences using different technologies enabling learners to choose their pathway. Students will gain skills and knowledge in digital photography, digital video, digital illustration, graphic design, typography and web design.

Entry requirements

Applicants should demonstrate an ability to succeed in tertiary study, shown by the completion of any of the following qualifications or courses of study at Level 1:

  • 8 credits from the NZQF approved standards for literacy skills
  • 8 credits from the NZQF approved standards for numeracy skills
  • No fewer than 8 NZQF credits from the Generic Computing domain.

Applicants who do not meet the academic entry criteria above may be admitted to the programme of study if they are able to demonstrate:

  • Equivalent knowledge and skills and/or
  • Previous and relevant life skills or work experience, and/or
  • Other formal or informal study such as to suggest likelihood of successful programme completion.

Further study options

Graduates can undertake further study towards the Certificate in Creative Technoligies Level 4, or proceed to the Certificate in Photography or Cultural Design (New Major in 2012) incorporating traditional and contemporary Maori Design, Visual Arts and 2D and 3D technologies.
