Introduction

The visual art, design, photography and film (multi-media) industries generally attract highly creative people who can view a problem or issue in a unique way and devise original solutions.

In recent years there has been an increase in the number of partnerships created between arts organisations, city councils, businesses and other community organisations. These partnerships aim to expand opportunities for artists and help develop their careers, through initiatives such as marketing drives.

Creative New Zealand is responsible for the development of the arts in New Zealand. Its main focus is to encourage, support and promote the value of the arts and New Zealand artists, nationally and internationally.

In Taranaki, WITT has an artist in residence programme partnership with the Govett-Brewster Art Galley which includes national and international artists.
