Qualification overview

This qualification is for people wanting to gain general skills and knowledge required to work in a technical or assistant digital media and design role. Graduates will be capable of applying general skills and knowledge to digital media and design projects independently and in teams.

    

Entry requirements

  • University Entrance; or
  • 42 or more credits at NCEA Level 3, with at least two subjects with a minimum of 14 credits each; over a maximum of 4 subjects; and 
  • A minimum of 24 credits at Level 3 NCEA in Art, Design or Technology subjects; and
  • A minimum of 12 credits in English at Level 2 or higher; and a minimum of 14 credits in Mathematics at Level 1 or higher; or
  • Successful completion of a relevant programme of study at Level 4 or equivalent; or
  • Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study.

All applicants will be required to submit a professional portfolio that demonstrates evidence of creative expression at an appropriate level and attend an interview.  Contact the department for more details on the portfolio and what it should include.

Career Options

Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge for a junior/entry-level position in various areas within creative industries. Those areas might include advertising, web design, in-house design studio, news media.
