A taste of business life while still a high school student led Learndra Hurliman to WITT.
She was lucky enough to have a part-time job working for an accountant while still at Hawera High school and that insight gave her an appetite for more.
“I loved it. I just wanted to learn more about how businesses run, and how to manage them. I find it fascinating.”
She also wanted to stay in Taranaki and WITT provided the perfect opportunity to do it all. The 18 year old studies full time during the week in New Plymouth and heads back to Hawera for weekends and family time.
“I’m enjoying all of the course. It’s covering all the business aspects that I was looking for – administration, accounting and business computing. And it’s so different to school. You are in a small class. You get to know the tutors and they are all easy to get along with.”
The workload can be challenging but tutors are supportive and help students manage the study and iron out any difficulties.
Learndra will seek full-time work at the end of her studies this year and would love another role at an accountancy firm.
