Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT) is one of New Zealand’s 20 Polytechnics and Institutes of Technology (ITPs), and is the only public tertiary institution based in the Taranaki region. WITT’s primary mission is to deliver quality, vocational aligned education and training that will serve the regional population and benefit the local economy.

Based at a central, New Plymouth campus, the Institute offers a range of programmes and courses from foundation to degree level, across a diverse field of subjects.
 
WITT has around 2,000 equivalent full-time students (EFTS), supported by approximately 157 full-time equivalent (FTE) management, teaching and allied staff. With annual expenditure of over $20 million, the Institute is a significant contributor to the regional economy.

Cafeteria

A student and staff cafeteria, with indoor and outdoor eating areas, is located on the ground floor of ‘B’ Block on the Bell Street campus.  The cafeteria is open from 8:00am - 3:00pm Monday to Friday, although hours vary depending on the holidays outside term time. EFTPOS is available on campus.

Chaplain

A chaplain is available to all students and staff at Student Support, located on the ground floor of B Block at the Bell Street campus.

Health and Counselling

Counselling is available to all students and staff through the Health and Wellness Centre, on the ground floor of B Block at the Bell Street campus. 
WITT currently has 2 qualified nurses on staff, based in the Health and Wellness centre, as well as a nurse practitioner (similar to a GP) who visits each Wednesday during term time.  Most Health & Wellness centre services are free to WITT staff and students.

Medical Insurance

WITT administers several healthcare schemes on behalf of healthcare organisations, for the benefit of our employees.  Some of the special benefits you may receive are:

*  No 90 day stand down period for claims if you join within the first 3 months of employment.

Polytots Early Childhood Learning Centre

Polytots is the licensed Early Childhood Learning Centre attached to the Institute’s Bell Street campus.  The Centre has an open programme of goal directed activity based on Te Whariki - the Early Childhood Curriculum.
Polytots is open from 7:45am - 5:15pm Monday to Friday, and cares for children from newborn to five years.

Staff Development

Staff at WITT are actively encouraged to further their professional development, and gain new skills.  WITT staff have the option of enrolling in any course offered at the Institute, and subject to approval any courses that are taken at WITT are fee free for staff.
