Electrical Tutor - Academic Staff

The Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT) is a tertiary education organisation which prides itself on its quality learning environment. We are seeking people to join our team to assist in building bright futures for our students.

We currently have a fixed-term position available for Tutors to teach in our Trades programmes on WITT's New Plymouth campus.

The successful candidate  will have demonstrated practical and theoretical up-to-date knowledge in all aspects of their trade and have an enthusiasm to pass on their knowledge to our students.

We are looking for:

Electrical Tutor

For electrical trade skills and apprenticeship training. Full time fixed term to December 2015.

  • Minimum five years industry experience in the Electrical or Instrumentation discipline
  • An Electrical or IMC qualification
  • Teaching experience desirable, but those with appropriate industry experience should also apply

Build-a-bach Tutor - Trades Academy

Inspire new trades learners.

WITT is a tertiary education organisation which prides itself on its quality learning environment.  We are seeking people to join our team to assist in building bright futures for our students.

In cooperation with Taranaki Futures, WITT is seeking applications for two tutors to teach on the innovative Build-a-Bach programme.  One role is based in New the Plymouth and the second is based at Stratford High School in Stratford, although some travel to New Plymouth may be required.

Each position is 0.8FTE (28.8 hours per week) fixed term until December 2015.

We are looking for Trades People who are:

  • Positively inclined and excited about teaching trades skills to school-age students.
  • Highly effective communicators who are able to relate well to all stakeholders including students, parents, teachers and employers
  • Most likely has a background in teaching trades and/or trades background.
  • Key tasks for the Build-a-Bach Tutors include:
  • Carrying out academic teaching and assessment role for courses indicated
  • Participating in the process of student evaluations, modifying teaching practices where required
  • Ensuring effective communication skills in learning situations, related to own discipline, are applied.
  • Recognising student learning difficulties and arranging appropriate support through WITT’s Student Support Services.

You will have:

  • Over five years’ experience in the Building and Construction industry
  • A proven track record of best practice Health & Safety compliance and understanding of current Health and Safety legislation
  • Worked with apprentices or in a student environment
  • Sound computer skills
  • Most likely have a background in teaching trades and/or trades background.
  • Most likely has a background in teaching trades and/or trades background.
