VANESSA HENLEY (PGDipArts (Psychology), BA (Sociology & Psychology), NCAET)

Vanessa came to WITT in 2008 to take up the position of Disability Coordinator, and continues in this role as well as working in the role of Learning Skills Tutor supporting academic literacy. Working within tertiary education in both the disability and academic support fields provides rewards and challenges - academically, professionally and personally. Previous work history includes projects Taranaki District Health Board, with one being a government-initiated review of pay and employment equity within the public health sector. Prior to this, Vanessa worked at Massey University in graduate teaching/research assistant and academic administrative roles following late entry into tertiary study.

One of her academic interest areas is social and psychological aspects of health, and in particular the impact of, and on, gender. Recent study has extended this interest to educational contexts/processes, in particular in relation to gender, and the impacts of artefacts of power and knowledge in educational contexts.
