WITT's can-do attitude

WITT staff rallied to the call from New Plymouth’s community food bank last week – by running its own food drive as part of a mid-winter Christmas gathering.

And on Monday more than 25 bags and boxes of food, mainly canned, were dropped off to a delighted New Plymouth Community Food Bank manager Mike Merrick.

The food bank sent out an SOS a week earlier when food supplies for those in need began to run perilously low.  This week Mike Merrick was looking at shelves full of what he sees as key food items for the food bank - such as cereals and canned spaghetti and baked beans.

The WITT collection came on the day when students broke up for a two week study break.

Mike Merrick said the response to the call for food had been excellent, and as he spoke on Monday others were also arriving with donations.

New Plymouth’s food bank, one of several throughout Taranaki, is based at 40 Vivian St.
